Pinellas Indoor Soccer laid a new turf field over its worn 7,200 sq ft field in one weekend, using Ultra Base panels, Ultra Base reports.
Results
The challenge
The 7,200 square foot turf field was worn out and glued to the concrete floor, so removing it would have been very hard. The owner needed a way to resurface without long downtime or the labor of tearing the old turf up.
The solution
Ultra Base panels were laid right on top of the cleaned old turf, with the Ultra Base team supervising. TLI Sports of Clearwater supplied and installed the turf, and the owner's staff resurfaced the walls and fitted a new 8 by 120 foot glass wall. The panels, snapped together row by row and cut to fit the rounded corners and goal areas, were followed by 1.5 inch monofilament turf, seamed, glued and infilled.
The outcome
Ultra Base says the panels and turf were installed and seamed in a single day and the field was finished in a weekend, which saved labor and limited lost revenue. It describes the new base as safer and better performing than the old one.
Key takeaways
- Covering the old glued-down turf avoided tearing it out.
- A weekend job meant less lost revenue for the facility.
- The panels were cut around rounded corners and goal areas.
