A Pocahontas, Arkansas natatorium replaced aging 400 W metal halides with 13 LED high bays, one for one, at about 30 fc, LED Lighting Supply says.
Results
The challenge
The pool's 400 W metal halide fixtures used a lot of energy for the light they gave, put heat and humidity into the pool hall, corroded in the damp air and left uneven light across the deck and water. Maintenance was costly at that ceiling height. The new fixtures also could not be mounted directly over the water.
The solution
LED Lighting Supply built a custom lighting plan and rendering, so the light levels and uniformity were confirmed before purchase. Its product specialist recommended 13 adjustable-wattage UFO high bay fixtures mounted around the pool at 16 feet, replacing the metal halides one for one.
The outcome
LED Lighting Supply reports an average of 30 fc across the pool area from fixtures placed around the water, a rated life 17 times longer than the old system and a large gain in energy efficiency. The customer's president said the facility was completely satisfied.
Key takeaways
- A custom plan confirmed light levels before any fixture was bought.
- Fixtures were placed around the pool because mounting over the water was not an option.
- Moisture and heat from the old fixtures were part of the case for replacing them.
