St. Kitts Marriott Resort relit its tennis, basketball and pickleball courts with LED shoebox lights on the perimeter poles at 21 fc, LED Lighting Supply says.
Results
The challenge
Twelve 1,000 W metal halides, over 20 years old, lit a court area of about 120 by 150 feet with two tennis courts and a shared half court for basketball and pickleball. The old fixtures were failing and the light was uneven, so guests could not use the courts after dark. The resort wanted the lights moved to the perimeter, on existing 18-foot fence poles, to stay within budget.
The solution
The resort handled procurement and freight into St. Kitts itself and made the final fixture choice. LED Lighting Supply's plan used shoebox-style LED fixtures at 18 feet on the perimeter poles.
The outcome
LED Lighting Supply reports an average of 21 fc at a 4.21 uniformity ratio, enough for recreational competition, within the resort's budget. It estimates about $9,000 a year in savings, including $8,768 in energy at the island's $0.33 per kWh rate, and about $45,000 over five years.
Key takeaways
- Moving lights to the perimeter poles let the resort keep within its budget.
- One court area serves three sports on a shared layout.
- Savings were estimated at the island's high electricity rate.
