Wilson Stadium in Albuquerque replaced 1500 W metal halide with Liberty LEDs that step up to a broadcast scene from the booth console, Duvon says.
Results
The challenge
The stadium hosts school, semi-pro and community events and needs lighting that can move from recreational to broadcast-ready when required. The old 1500 W metal-halide lights could not deliver flicker-free light at today's frame rates and took too long to warm up for live events.
The solution
Duvon used 1200 W Liberty heads using broadcast-grade drivers and 70 CRI optics, with flicker (TLM) held under 0.10 at all dimming levels. Three scenes, practice, league and broadcast, run from the existing booth console.
The outcome
Duvon reports 50 fc horizontal and 100 fc vertical in the broadcast scene, restart in under a second after a grid event, and a 55 percent cut in operating energy across a full season of meter readings.
About the Liberty fixture
Liberty is Duvon's multi-sport field lighting family, from 800 to 1,200 watts. It produces 104,000 to 144,000 lumens per fixture at 130 to 140 lumens per watt, with 15, 25 or 45 degree optics. It is made to replace 2000 to 2500 watt metal halide and HID fixtures.
Key takeaways
- One stadium serves everything from practice to broadcast through scenes.
- Flicker control was specified through the full dimming range.
- A faster restart suits live events better than metal halide's slow warm-up.
