McHenry Park District retrofitted its baseball diamonds with surge-protected Liberty LEDs that restart instantly after a power blip, Duvon reports.
Results
The challenge
The district runs a busy schedule for both youth and adult leagues, and tournament weekends bring in regional teams. Its old fixtures had aged into uneven output and needed ladder service after each storm season.
The solution
Duvon installed 1200 W Liberty heads on the existing poles, with surge-protected drivers rated for storm-prone northern Illinois and instant-on response so games can restart quickly after a short outage. Aiming was verified on site with a calibrated illuminance meter.
The outcome
Duvon reports 50 fc in the infield and 30 fc in the outfield, 1.5:1 uniformity, instant restart after grid events and a 60 percent cut in operating energy.
About the Liberty fixture
Liberty is Duvon's multi-sport field lighting family, from 800 to 1,200 watts. It is made to replace 2000 to 2500 watt metal halide and HID fixtures. Housings are IP65 rated and the operating range runs from -40 to 131 F.
Key takeaways
- Storm-season service calls were part of what the district wanted to eliminate.
- Instant restart keeps tournament games moving after a blip.
- Aiming was checked with a calibrated meter.
