Laramie Park in Skokie replaced end-of-life HID baseball lights with Liberty LEDs aimed for Class II ratios and spill under 0.05 fc, Duvon says.
Results
The challenge
Baseball lighting is demanding because the ball spends most of its flight overhead and any glare in a catcher's or fielder's sight line breaks the play. Laramie Park also sits beside a residential street.
The solution
Duvon replaced the old HID set with 1200 W Liberty heads on the existing poles, aimed for Class II baseball practice at 50 fc in the infield and 30 fc in the outfield, with ball tracking verified along the foul lines. Shields on the house side of the residential pole row stopped stray light reaching nearby windows.
The outcome
Duvon reports spill at the property line under 0.05 fc, 1.5:1 uniformity, and cleaner ball pickup for Little League and adult players, with a saving of up to 58 percent.
About the Liberty fixture
Liberty is Duvon's multi-sport field lighting family, from 800 to 1,200 watts. It produces 104,000 to 144,000 lumens per fixture at 130 to 140 lumens per watt, with 15, 25 or 45 degree optics. It is made to replace 2000 to 2500 watt metal halide and HID fixtures.
Key takeaways
- Glare control mattered as much as brightness near homes.
- Ball tracking was checked along the foul lines, not just at the infield.
- Existing poles were reused.
