Lafayette Tennis Club lit three courts to club-tournament level within the city's lighting ordinance, with residential spill under 0.07 fc, Duvon reports.
Results
The challenge
Homes line two sides of the club and a wooded ridge closes the third, so there is almost no room for stray light. The brief was club-tournament visibility on three courts without breaking Lafayette's outdoor lighting ordinance.
The solution
Duvon used 400 W ProCourt luminaires with house-side shields tuned to each pole and a 5000K daylight spectrum for ball contrast. Existing poles and mounting heights were reused, which avoided a new planning permit. Line-of-sight studies to the neighbouring properties produced six different aiming files for the three courts.
The outcome
Duvon reports field readings of 45 fc maintained and 1.3:1 uniformity, with less than 0.07 fc reaching the homes beside the courts. It also cites about 60 percent lower operating energy and no more warm-up wait.
About the ProCourt fixture
ProCourt is Duvon's 300 and 400 watt court lighting family for tennis, pickleball and multi-court projects. It is made to replace 1000 to 1500 watt metal halide and other HID fixtures. The LED engines are rated L70 at 100,000 hours or more, backed by a 10-year warranty.
Key takeaways
- Reusing the existing poles and heights avoided a re-permit.
- Six aiming files for three courts show how site-specific the shielding was.
- Commissioning measurements were taken against the ordinance limit, not just the design model.
