Byron Center's community baseball field now has sealed Union LEDs built for Michigan winters and aimed away from the walking trail, Duvon says.

The challenge
The field is busy in the warm months and idle in deep winter, so the lighting had to start reliably in the shoulder seasons and survive lake-effect snow without service. A neighbouring walking path also had to stay dark and safe.
The solution
Duvon used Union series heads at 300 W with cold-start drivers for temperatures down to -40 F and sealed enclosures against snow loading. The fixtures were aimed for an asymmetric throw away from the trail.
The outcome
Duvon reports residents play under mid-40s fc maintained light through October dusk, at 1.4:1 uniformity, with spill onto the trail measured under 0.06 fc and a saving of up to 62 percent.
About the Union fixture
Union is Duvon's value-engineered field and stadium family, from 300 to 600 watts. It produces up to 84,000 lumens with 25, 45 or 60 degree optics. It can replace 1000 to 1500 watt metal halide and HID fixtures.
Key takeaways
- Cold-start drivers and sealed housings addressed Michigan winter conditions.
- Aiming away from the trail kept an adjoining walkway dark.
- A seasonal field needs reliability without ongoing service visits.
