The challenge

The family's property covers more than 50 acres, with a pool, a lake, a football field and basketball and tennis courts. Their interest had shifted from tennis to pickleball, and the space only had room for one tennis court, so they wanted more than one court to play on, built on the foundation already there.

The solution

VersaCourt laid its Pickleball Performance tiles in navy and emerald over the foundation of the old tennis court, using its locking system, and the tennis court became two pickleball courts. VersaCourt says the modular system can go over an existing court and be ready to play on within a few hours.

The outcome

The estate now has two pickleball courts where there was one tennis court. VersaCourt notes the tiles come in 14 colors, so the courts can be customized, and that owners can install the system themselves or use an authorized dealer.

About the Pickleball Performance tile

The VersaCourt Pickleball Performance tile is a polypropylene court tile designed for pickleball and other racquet sports. It uses a six-point locking system, comes in 14 standard colors for outdoor use, and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Key takeaways

  • The old tennis foundation was reused, so no new base was needed.
  • One court became two, which matched how the family wanted to play.
  • VersaCourt says the surface can be ready to play on within hours.

In their words

One of the biggest needs we’re seeing is the conversion of tennis to pickleball. We took an existing tennis court and converted it into two pickleball courts. The beautiful thing about our court systems is that they are DIY, very simple to install.
