The Gretzky Hockey School uses a portable VersaCourt tile court for off-ice and ball hockey training, which VersaCourt says travels between its cities.
Results
The challenge
The school started in Coeur d'Alene in 2014 and now runs sessions in 12 North American cities. It needed an off-ice training surface for skills work, drills and ball hockey that could be set up in whatever space each location offered, while giving players the same experience everywhere.
The solution
The school uses VersaCourt's Outdoor Game Tile. The tiles are modular, so the court can be put together, taken apart, moved and rebuilt. VersaCourt says this lets the school turn a space such as a parking lot into a training area, and that the surface is built to handle stickhandling, shooting drills and pick-up games.
The outcome
VersaCourt reports a surface the school can bring to each city. The founder says the kids love it, that the court looks great, and that it has become a big part of the energy at the school's sessions in Coeur d'Alene.
About the Game Outdoor tile
The VersaCourt Game Outdoor tile is a 3/4 inch interlocking court tile for outdoor basketball, tennis and multi-sport courts. Each tile locks to its neighbors on all sides at six points, it comes in 17 standard colors, and VersaCourt backs it with a lifetime warranty.
Key takeaways
- A modular surface can follow a school from city to city.
- The same court gives players a similar experience in every location.
- An ordinary parking lot can become a training space.
