D.C. Everest High School in Weston renovated its fields with DFE Extreme turf with thatch over a Brock shock pad, for five sports, Sprinturf says.

The challenge
The district needed a surface for intensive year-round use across several sports and age groups, covering varsity football and soccer, unified lacrosse and youth programs, with less maintenance and less weather downtime. It also had to be finished during the summer window to be ready for fall activities.
The solution
Sprinturf supplied and installed DFE Extreme turf with polyethylene thatch, at a 52 oz face weight and 2 inch pile, with sand and rubber infill. A Brock SP-14 shock pad under the turf adds impact absorption for athletes. Football, soccer, softball, mini-soccer and unified lacrosse all use the field. Somerville Architects and Engineers designed the project and The Boldt Company managed construction.
The outcome
Sprinturf says the renovation gave the district a durable, consistent surface for its growing athletic and community programs, with more scheduling flexibility, less maintenance and a longer usable season in Wisconsin weather.
About the UltraBlade DFE Extreme system
UltraBlade DFE Extreme is a dual-fiber system that combines parallel long-slit film with a thick monofilament, which is meant to hold infill in place. Sprinturf lists it with a 2 to 2.5 inch pile, a 52 oz standard face weight, drainage above 60 inches per hour and an 8-year warranty. Sprinturf's thatch builds add a 100 micron texturized polyethylene layer at the base of the turf. The extra density helps keep infill from shifting and makes the field feel fuller and more consistent underfoot.
Key takeaways
- A shock pad under the turf was added for impact absorption.
- The field serves five different sports and age groups.
- The renovation was scheduled around the summer construction window.
