The Harry Jerome Sports Centre, one of Canada's three indoor velodromes, replaced its tile floor with a seamless Robbins Pulastic Classic 110 in 2017.
Results
The challenge
The 1997 building's old floor was interlocking tile over a 3 mm underlayment. It was hard, noisy, shifted with temperature changes, left gaps, and stopped short of the velodrome track, creating a trip hazard where athletes moved on and off the track.
The solution
With grant funding secured, dealer Centaur Products installed a floating, seamless Pulastic Classic 110 floor of about 26,000 square feet. It reaches the base of the track and fits six competition volleyball courts as well as the cycling track.
The outcome
The centre's manager says demand for the space has risen since the new floor went in, which he links to less fatigue and fewer injuries. The project was entered for Robbins' Sports Surface of the Year award.
About the Pulastic Classic 110 floor
Pulastic Classic 110 is an 11 mm model in Robbins' Pulastic range: an all-round, seamless floor that can be resurfaced and helps absorb sound. Its seamless surface is non-porous, easy to maintain and repair, and contains recycled content.
Key takeaways
- A seamless floor could run right up to the track, which tiles could not.
- One floor now fits six competition volleyball courts and a velodrome.
- Grant funding made the replacement possible.

In their words
We’ve definitely noticed an increase in demand for the space because of the new floor. I would attribute that to things like less fatigue and less injury.
