The final phase of the Genesis Centre's expansion near Calgary, completed December 2013, used Robbins Bio-Cushion Classic and Pulastic Classic floors.
Results
The challenge
The Genesis Centre grew in three phases, worth nearly $50 million, adding two NHL-sized ice arenas, a pool complex, indoor soccer, a 200-meter running track and a health studio. The last phase needed safe floors for gymnastics, track, soccer, dance and fitness, while balancing cost, quality and the construction timeframe.
The solution
Centaur Products installed Robbins Bio-Cushion Classic and Pulastic Classic, with hardwood floors, a dance floor and Pulastic synthetic surfaces matched to each activity. The dealer's part of the work took about two months from start to finish.
The outcome
The final phase was completed in December 2013 with one flooring range covering the center's sports and classes. The dealer says the surfaces suit the safety and performance needs of the facility's users.
About the Pulastic floors
Pulastic is Robbins' range of seamless, padded polyurethane sports floors. Its seven models run from 5 mm to 16.5 mm thick and cover indoor gyms, fitness rooms and outdoor courts. The surface is non-porous and can be repaired and resurfaced.
Key takeaways
- One flooring range covered hardwood, dance and synthetic areas.
- The last of three expansion phases covered 27,770 square feet.
- The dealer's installation took about two months.
Project details
In their words
Our part of the project — from start of construction to finish — was about two months. And we were able to sell them on the quality of the product that we could supply through Robbins. Without a doubt, those are the right surfaces for that facility.
