LakePoint Sports re-turfed the Baseball Village's eight fields and 17 batting cages with GeoSurfaces turf in 40 days, per the 2024 announcement.

The challenge
LakePoint's Baseball Village hosts travel baseball tournaments, so its eight major-league-sized fields take heavy use and play through the hottest months. The venue wanted new turf in place for the 2024 season, and the work had to fit into the short holiday-season break between events. LakePoint worked with Prep Baseball, a leading amateur baseball scouting organization, to choose its turf partner.
The solution
GeoSurfaces replaced the turf on all eight fields and fitted the 17 batting cages with turf, about one million square feet in all. The release describes a GeoSurfaces XPS fiber in a blended color scheme, with a heavier face weight that GeoSurfaces says improves wear resistance and playability. Removal of the old turf and installation of the new took 40 days. The old turf, about the same area, was recycled instead of going to a landfill.
The outcome
LakePoint and GeoSurfaces say the new surface should improve conditions by 10 to 15 degrees on some of the hottest days of the year, though they do not say what is measured. LakePoint's venue guide adds that the fields are surfaced with GeoSurfaces turf so play can resume right after rain. The project came with a five-year sponsorship between LakePoint Sports and GeoSurfaces.
Key takeaways
- One turf supplier covered all eight fields and the batting cages.
- The work was scheduled into the holiday-season break and took 40 days.
- The old turf was recycled, which the supplier highlights as part of the project.
