In a forward-thinking collaboration, VersaCourt has partnered with #tide®, a Swiss company dedicated to repurposing ocean-bound plastic, to introduce an innovative line of eco-friendly athletic courts. These courts are not just performance-driven—they’re part of a growing movement toward sustainability and environmental responsibility in the sports facility industry.
This initiative uses recycled polypropylene sourced from plastic waste collected in heavily polluted coastal regions, particularly around Mexico and the Caribbean. Once collected, the plastic is converted into high-quality granules through a low-emission process developed by #tide®, and then transformed into VersaCourt’s modular game tiles. The result is a durable, visually striking court that plays like traditional surfaces but with a dramatically reduced environmental footprint.

The partnership officially launched with a donated multi-sport court in Progreso, a town on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. The project serves as more than just a play space—it’s a tool for raising awareness about ocean pollution, engaging the local community, and creating meaningful social impact. By combining sport with sustainability, the court offers children and families a space to gather, exercise, and learn about environmental stewardship.
In addition to helping divert plastic waste from oceans, the program also supports local economies by contributing to the development of waste collection systems and creating new employment opportunities in underserved regions. From a global sustainability perspective, this approach also helps reduce CO₂ emissions when compared to traditional plastic production.

Thanks to VersaCourt’s modular court system, these recycled-plastic courts are quick to install and adaptable for a variety of sports, including basketball, pickleball, and tennis. The tiles maintain the same high performance and safety standards as VersaCourt’s standard products, proving that sustainability and quality can go hand in hand.
This collaboration between VersaCourt and #tide® highlights how innovation in materials and manufacturing can help address some of today’s most pressing environmental challenges—while still delivering the performance athletes expect.
