About this product

UltraBlade is Sprinturf’s family of slit-film synthetic turf systems for football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball fields. Nine systems range from 46 to 60 oz face weight.

How the systems compare

UltraBlade is Sprinturf’s slit-film turf family. The main choice is the fiber: slit film only, slit film paired with a monofilament, or monofilament alone. Dual-fiber (DFE) systems add an upright monofilament blade, the Single Needle versions put both fibers in one tuft, and the Thatch builds add a dense layer at the base for heavier use. Face weights run from 46 to 60 oz. Infill choices and the G-Max warranty are set for each project.

System Fiber Face weight Drainage What sets it apart
UltraBlade 50 Slit film (120 micron) 50 oz Over 40 in/hr The original all-slit-film build, from 1998
UltraBlade Extreme 50 Two slit films (120 micron) 50 oz Over 40 in/hr Two slit-film fibers on a wider 1/2 in gauge
UltraBlade DFE 50 Slit film (120) and C8 monofilament (330) 50 oz Over 40 in/hr Slit film for coverage plus a monofilament that stands upright
UltraBlade DFE Single Needle 50 Slit film (120) and C8 monofilament (330) 50 oz Over 40 in/hr Both fibers share one tuft on a 1/2 in gauge
UltraBlade DFE SharkTooth 46 SharkTooth slit film (135) and monofilament (330) 46 oz Over 60 in/hr Lightest build, with the fastest drainage of the group
UltraBlade DFE Extreme Slit film (120) and monofilament (330) 52 oz Over 60 in/hr Heavier DFE build with an 8-year warranty
UltraBlade with Thatch 60 Slit film (120) plus thatch (100) 60 oz Over 40 in/hr Slit film with a thatch layer for base density
UltraBlade DFE with Thatch 60 Slit film (120), monofilament (330) and thatch (100) 60 oz Over 40 in/hr Three fiber components in one 60 oz build
UltraBlade MXE Extreme 52 C8 monofilament only (330) 52 oz Over 40 in/hr The only all-monofilament system here

UltraBlade 50

The slit-film system Sprinturf introduced in 1998, using a 120-micron parallel long-slit fibrillated fiber made with Exxon metallocene resin. It routinely exceeds 100,000 cycles in Lisport wear testing.

  • Single fibrillated parallel long-slit fiber, 120 microns thick
  • 50 oz face weight with a 1.75 to 2.25 in pile
  • Tuft bind of more than 12 lbs of force
  • Reported to pass 100,000 Lisport wear cycles

UltraBlade Extreme 50

An all-slit-film system using two field-green, 120-micron parallel long-slit fibrillated fibers in a 50 oz build, made in-house with Exxon metallocene resin.

  • Two field-green fibrillated long-slit fibers instead of one
  • Tufted at 1/2 in gauge, 50 oz face weight
  • Slit-film fiber made in-house from metallocene resin
  • Tuft bind of more than 12 lbs of force

UltraBlade DFE 50

A Dual Fiber Elite system that pairs UltraBlade slit film for coverage and infill control with 330-micron C8 monofilament for an upright, defined blade and a resilient feel underfoot.

  • Dual Fiber Elite: slit film holds infill, monofilament keeps the blade upright
  • 50 oz face weight on a 3/8 in gauge
  • Total weight of 82 oz/yd2 without infill
  • Tuft bind of more than 12 lbs of force

UltraBlade DFE Single Needle 50

UltraBlade slit film and C8 monofilament placed in the same tuft, for even fiber distribution across the field and a refined, game-day look.

  • Slit film and monofilament placed in the same tuft
  • Even fiber spread across the field for a refined look
  • 1/2 in gauge, 50 oz face weight
  • Tuft bind of more than 10 lbs of force

UltraBlade DFE SharkTooth 46

A dual-fiber system that pairs SharkTooth knife-slit film, about 15 percent wider than standard long-slit fiber, with resilient monofilament. It drains faster than the other UltraBlade systems and is made for indoor and outdoor fields.

  • SharkTooth slit film is about 15 percent wider than standard long-slit fiber
  • 46 oz face weight with a pile of 1.75 to 2.5 in
  • Drains at more than 60 in/hr
  • G-Max under 150 with all rubber, under 175 with sand and rubber
  • Made for indoor and outdoor fields

UltraBlade DFE Extreme

A dual-fiber system for soccer, lacrosse and other multi-use fields, pairing thick monofilament with slit film to keep infill in place.

  • Parallel long-slit film paired with monofilament
  • 52 oz face weight and an 85 oz/yd2 total weight without infill
  • Pile of 2 to 2.5 in
  • Warranted for 8 years
  • G-Max under 150 with rubber infill, under 175 with sand and rubber

UltraBlade with Thatch 60

Sprinturf’s slit-film system with an extra 100-micron texturized polyethylene layer at the base of the turf. The added density keeps infill from shifting and makes the field feel fuller and more consistent underfoot.

  • Texturized polyethylene thatch fills the base of the turf
  • Extra density helps keep infill from shifting
  • 60 oz face weight, 92 oz/yd2 total without infill
  • Suited to football, soccer, baseball and softball

UltraBlade DFE with Thatch 60

A three-component system combining UltraBlade slit film, C8 monofilament and a texturized polyethylene thatch layer that adds density at the base, for fullness and added support under heavy use.

  • Combines slit film, C8 monofilament and a thatch layer
  • Adds fullness and support where fields see the heaviest use
  • 60 oz face weight, 92 oz/yd2 total without infill
  • Suited to football, soccer, baseball and softball

UltraBlade MXE Extreme 52

A premium 52 oz monofilament system with 330-micron diamond-shaped fibers made from C8 resins, for a natural-grass look and a responsive feel. It has 15 years of use, including at Weidner Field.

  • Diamond-shaped C8 monofilament fibers, 330 microns thick
  • Aimed at a natural-grass look and a responsive feel
  • 1/2 in gauge, 52 oz face weight, 26 oz secondary backing
  • Fiber integrity reported after 100,000 Lisport cycles
  • In use for about 15 years, including at Weidner Field
